  3. You can subdivide your collection into as many different collections as you want.
  4. You can assign each item within your collections to categories of your own choosing.
  5. You can easily export your collection to Excel or print it out for easy reference.

How to enter individual coins into MyCollection  Back to Top

In order to enter a single coin into MyCollection, follow the following steps:

  1. Sign in to heritagecoins.com
  2. Click on "MyCollection"
  3. On the left part of the page, there will be a box with the header "Actions..." Choose the collection you wish to add a coin to, either "Coins from Heritage" or another collection that you can name. If you do not have a collection listed yet, click on the link "Add/Edit Collection" to add one. Once you are ready to add an item to this collection, click on the "Go" button.
  4. There are several ways to enter coins into MyCollection. You will have the choice to enter a coin by denomination, by commemoration (Classic commemoratives only), by date/denomination, by scanner if you have a coin graded by PCGS, NGC, ICG, or ANACS, and manually. Probably the easiest way I've found to enter a US non-commemorative coin is to do so by date and denomination.

If you want to enter a raw 1907 cent in VG-8 condition, enter 1907 as the date, and choose 1C in the drop-down box corresponding to the denomination. Leave the radio button for MS and PR selected as MS for this circulation strike coin. Click on the "Go" button in the "By Denomination" box.
  5. You will be brought to a table covering every coin fitting your description, here a 1907 cent designated RD (red), RB (red and brown) or BN (brown). Choose the check box next to the best description of your coin. In this case, it will be marked 1907 1C, BN, since coins of this grade tend not to retain any of their original red coloring. Choose the grade of your coin from the drop down box under the heading "Grade", in this case 8 for a coin in VG-8 condition. Since your coin is not in a slab, choose "Raw" in the drop down box under the heading "Service". Choose the appropriate selection in the drop-down box under "Category"; you can define these if you choose. Once you've made all your selections on this page, click on one of the buttons marked "Add to Collection".
  6. Voila! You will be able to see this coin and all other items in your collection, along with their Numismedia Wholesale value and population. You can make additional notes about your pieces by clicking on the "More…" link next to any particular coin.

Of course, once you have started up any collection under MyCollection, any coin that you have ever bought directly from Heritage will be automatically added to your MyCollection under a collection called "Coins from Heritage". You need do nothing more in order to have a complete listing of these coins, including purchase price and images!

How to enter multiple coins into MyCollection simultaneously  Back to Top

If you wish to enter a large group of coins of the same type into MyCollection, choose to enter the coins by denomination. You will see this choice at the top of the "Add to Collection" screen. Assuming that you have a number of Indian Head Cents, you can choose the denomination "Indian Head Cents in the drop-down box. You will see something like this:

Check all the coins you wish to enter, noting the grade and the grading service as appropriate. You can choose a default grade and/or grading service for your coins, and this can come in handy in saving you some steps whether you have a collection of PCGS-graded MS-66 coins or a Whitman album full of raw Good-4 coins.

Here, I've checked a raw 1860 cent in VF-30 condition and a PCGS-graded 1864 Bronze in MS-61 Brown. To get to further listings of the type, you can proceed through all the pages corresponding to the type by clicking on the "Next>>" link, or you can choose to go directly to the page that contains your coin by entering the date of your coin in the "Jump to date:" box and clicking "Go". If the remaining coins in your collection are the 1872, 1877, and everything from 1900 to 1909-S, you might want to jump to the first three coins individually and then page through the rest of the listings when you can check a group of coins simultaneously.

When you have checked every coin in this type in your collection, click on "Add to Collection". When you do this, you will be taken directly to the main listing for your MyCollection where your entire collection including newly added coins will be available for review.

MyCollection, for world coins and currency  Back to Top

MyCollection currently does not have a specific way to enter currency or most world coins such as the search by date or search by denomination functions that can be used with US coinage. However, you can certainly enter currency, world coins, or anything else not covered specifically by the MyCollection interface.

You would do this by going to the "Manual Entry" section of MyCollection, as follows:

  1. Go to the "Add New Item to MyCollection", at the left side of the MyCollection screen. Hit "Go".
  2. At the bottom of the page, there is a section entitled "Manual Entry". Click on "Add".

You will then see this table:

At this point, you will not be able to change the listed item from the generic 1000 MS GD0, although we hope to add the facility to add your own description of the item in the near future. However, you can describe the piece under Coin Notes, and this will show up whenever you print out the collection or download the collection to Microsoft Excel, both of which are options on the MyCollection page. You can also add information about the Grading Service, if any; the grade; when you purchased the item; and how much you paid for the item.

Transferring Coins Between Collections in MyCollection  Back to Top

When you buy coins from Heritage, they are added to MyCollection in a collection entitled Coins From Heritage. If you have already put together a collection under another name and wish to keep track of all of your coins regardless of source, it is quite easy to move coins from one collection to another.

Here we have two coins in a Coins From Heritage collection - a 1921 dime graded ANACS AG3 and a 1878-S dollar graded NGC MS64. To move the dollar into the collection entitled "Fred," click on the checkbox to the left of the appropriate coin. Then go to the box at the bottom of the page entitled "Move Selected Items to this Collection," and choose the collection you wish the coin to move to. Once you have checked all the coins you wish to move and chosen the destination collection, just click on the "Go" button in the "Move Selected Items to this Collection" box. The coin will immediately take up residence in the collection you chose.

Because of the quantity of information that is automatically provided when you buy a coin from Heritage, this is an ideal method of entering your coin in your main collection without losing any information.

How to enter images of coins into MyCollection  Back to Top

Although Heritage does not keep files of coins for individuals, the "MyCollection" feature allows you to link your coin automatically to an image either on the internet or on a local computer.

To link an image to your coin, go to its listing within "MyCollection". Click on the link corresponding to the coin.

This will bring up a menu that will allow you to edit specific information corresponding to your coin.

Near the bottom of this menu are two boxes entitled "Link to picture" and "Link to Picture 2". "Link to Picture" is the path to any image of your choice to accurately depict this item. There are two methods to get your picture to appear:

  1. If the image you want to display is on your computer, type the path to that image (example: C:\My Documents\Coin Images\1909SVDB.jpg). Please note: the image will only appear on that computer. If you view your collection from another computer, and that image is not present in the same place, it will not display.
  2. If the image you want to display is hosted somewhere on the internet, type in the full URL (web site address) to that image. Example: http://www.mydomain.ext/myimage.jpg.

Once you enter the correct path to the image(s) you want to display and save this page, when you return you will see the image(s) appear. If you do not see the image(s), please verify that you have the correct path to the image.

Of course, once you have started up any collection under MyCollection, any coin that you have ever bought directly from Heritage will be automatically added to your MyCollection under a collection called "Coins from Heritage", and if this coin had an image the link will be transferred automatically when the coin is added. You need do nothing more!
